Meet the Artist

Kelly Reese

Hello and welcome to Art of Kellzz. I’m Kelly, a self‑taught artist and designer rooted in the colorful landscape of Colorado. My work centers on abstract portraiture shaped by popular culture, reimagining familiar icons with a bold, expressive twist. I’m drawn to the way a face can be deconstructed—its angles, rhythms, and emotional undertones—and rebuilt into something that feels both recognizable and transformed. Inspired by artists like Kandinsky and Klee, I break down each subject into geometric shapes, layered textures, and vibrant color relationships that create movement and energy. Their influence shows up in the freedom to distort, simplify, and exaggerate until the portrait carries more emotion than literal likeness. Abstraction becomes a language for me, allowing cultural figures to be translated into compositions that feel modern, timeless, and personal. Each piece begins with the inspiration of a popular icon, whose imagery becomes the foundation for my abstract interpretation. Working digitally gives me the flexibility to experiment, shift hues, rearrange forms, and refine details until the portrait finds its balance. The medium mirrors the way my ideas move—fluid, fast, and full of possibility—while offering the precision needed to push abstraction without losing the essence of the subject. My portraits sit at the intersection of nostalgia and reinvention, honoring cultural icons while presenting them through a lens that feels playful, bold, and unexpected. They invite viewers to see familiar faces differently, noticing the harmony in their geometry, the energy in their colors, and the story within their reconstructed forms. Art of Kellzz is a space where my influences, curiosity, and identity converge. It reflects my belief that art can hold beauty, experimentation, cultural relevance, and personal expression all at once. Through digital abstraction, I aim to create portraits that feel alive—pieces that spark recognition and surprise in the same moment and celebrate the evolving relationship between art, culture, and individuality.
